When TCGHaulTracker processes a packing slip, it validates every shipping address against the USPS database and attempts to generate an Intelligent Mail Barcode for each order. The result of that process is shown on the job detail page for every order — a status that tells you whether the barcode was generated, and if not, why.

This page explains every possible address quality result, what it means, and what action (if any) you should take.

Address quality results are separate from tracking results. This page covers what happens during processing — before the envelope is mailed. For scan events and delivery status, see your Jobs dashboard.

Barcode Generation Results

Every order in a processed job will show one of the following barcode statuses.

✓ Generated Barcode generated successfully

USPS validated the address and a unique Intelligent Mail Barcode was generated. The barcode is included in your PDF output and is ready to print.

Example 123 Main St, Springfield, IL 62701

Action: None. Print and mail as normal.

⚠ Confirm unit Missing apt / suite number

USPS confirmed the street and ZIP are valid but flagged that the address requires a secondary unit number (apt, suite, unit, etc.) that wasn't provided. No barcode was generated.

This typically means the buyer lives in an apartment complex or multi-unit building and didn't include their unit number when placing the order.

Example 200 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601  (no apt number)

Action: Contact the buyer to confirm their unit number, then use the Fix button to enter the correct address and generate a barcode. Alternatively, if you know the address is correct as-is, use Generate barcode anyway — the order will still track.

⚠ Unconfirmed unit Secondary address couldn't be confirmed

A unit number was provided but USPS couldn't confirm it exists at that address. The barcode was still generated — the envelope will mail normally — but delivery to the specific unit is unconfirmed.

This is common when a buyer types a unit number that USPS doesn't have in their database (e.g. a newer building, or a unit that uses a non-standard format).

Example 200 E Randolph St Apt 999, Chicago, IL 60601  (unit not in USPS records)

Action: Barcode is in your PDF and ready to print. If the buyer later reports non-delivery, this flag is useful context. No action required before mailing.

✗ Address not found USPS could not locate the address

USPS searched their database and could not find a match for the address provided. No barcode was generated. This is a definitive failure — the address as written is not deliverable via USPS.

Common causes: typo in the street name, wrong city/state for the ZIP, or a buyer who entered an incomplete or incorrect address.

Example 1234 Fake Street, Boston, MA 02101  (no match in USPS database)

Action: Contact the buyer to confirm their shipping address before mailing. Use the Fix button once you have a corrected address.

📦 Ship separately Order total ≥ $50 — tracked postage required

TCGplayer's seller policy requires orders with a total value of $50 or more to ship with tracked postage (Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, etc.) — not plain white envelope. No barcode is generated for these orders.

Example Any order with a total ≥ $50.00

Action: Ship this order separately using USPS tracked postage. Do not include it in your PWE batch.

✗ No ZIP Address couldn't be parsed

TCGHaulTracker couldn't extract a ZIP code from the address block in the packing slip. This is rare and usually indicates a formatting issue with the PDF — for example, the address block was missing or malformed.

Example 123 Main St, Springfield, IL  (ZIP missing from address block)

Action: Check the original packing slip to confirm the address printed correctly. If the address is valid, use the Fix button to manually enter it.

Address Validation Indicators

In addition to the barcode status, each order shows address validation indicators in the job detail view.

✓ USPS validated Address confirmed against USPS database

USPS returned a match for this address. The certified address (which may include USPS standardization like uppercase formatting or an appended ZIP+4) is what's encoded in the barcode.

~ Address corrected USPS standardized or corrected the address

USPS returned a modified version of the address — for example, appending a ZIP+4, correcting a street abbreviation, or standardizing formatting. The correction is shown in the order detail. The barcode uses the corrected address.

Action: Review the correction if it looks unexpected. If USPS added a unit number you didn't provide, verify with the buyer that it's correct.

~ Validation unavailable Transient USPS API issue

TCGHaulTracker attempted to validate the address but the USPS API returned an error or was temporarily unavailable. A barcode was still generated using the address as provided. This is different from "Address not found" — it means USPS couldn't be reached, not that the address is invalid.

Action: The barcode is valid and the order will mail normally. No action required — this is a USPS API availability issue, not a problem with the address.

When in doubt, contact the buyer. For any address quality issue that prevents barcode generation, the fastest resolution is usually a quick message to the buyer confirming their shipping address before you mail. A few seconds of confirmation can prevent a non-delivery dispute later.
